|

Hi,
I have a quick question please!.
Is it better (from transfer rate point of view) to plug my DR card with its PCI adapter into a 64 bit PCI motherboard or to buy a PCI-Express to PMC adapter to achieve better rate?
My current motherboard has only 32bit PCI slots, but has 16X PCI-E slots. Depending on your answer either I will buy a new motherboard or buy PCI-E to PMC (of course from Innovative Integration!!).
Best Regards,

Ironically, the DR module will actually achieve better throughput mounted on a passive PMC to PCI adapter, as long as the combination is installed into a 64-bit, 66 MHz PCI slot. This will provide approximately 400 MB/s of sustained throughput.
The particular bridge we are using on our PMC to PCIe adapter does not perform as well as advertised by the chip manufacturer. We're only measuring rates up to about 200 MB/s with this device, even though the bridge is a four-lane PCIe electrical interface. This is an anomoly of this particular bridge, not intrinsic to PCIe. _________________ Jim |
